Performance notes:
frame
there is a space framed by
surrounding surfaces
and in the space are audience, performer,
camera, projection, sheets of paper
audience sit on the floor in a taped rectangular area
not touching the walls
they are invited to face towards one wall
where a projection frame shows something
of what lies behind them
Behind the audience
I move/draw on a sheet of paper on the floor
and on another sheet of paper on a wall
the static camera frames and records my action
my action projected on the wall
audience hear me, sense me behind them
(may even glance behind)
and see me in front of them
live sounds and mediated image are split
with the audience in between
my presence divided between frames, pages, spaces
event
occurs between a composition of juxtaposed frames
wall, floor, paper sheet, projection, marked audience frame
move/draw action
is a singular repetitive intention
(like a prayer)
black on white
the movement gathers traces
and traces feed back into the movement
like breathing
moving/drawing like breathing
breathing between body and line
line and body
movement becoming material
a move towards and away from the surface
a tension between, and merging of
body and surface
surface like a skin
a document
a canvas
my presence is in the trace and is traced
with the audience inscribed
